Who am I?
I'm John Richmond, photographer and writer, based in Plymouth, down in the mild climate of the South West of England. Situated in close proximity to the coasts of Devon and Cornwall, the hills of Dartmoor, the landscapes and wildlife of the Tamar Valley, and the multitude of world renowned gardens I have no shortage of inspiration for my work.I have been a dedicated gardener for nearly 40 years, following education and training to doctoral level as an ecologist. In that time I have had numerous articles published in the UK gardening press and, in the early days of the Internet, ran the popular John & Maria's Garden Pages website - now revived as two blogs; John And Maria's Gardening Pages and John and Maria's Photography Pages. Due to time constraints only the Photography blog is being updated at present.
I currently spend a good deal of my time at The Garden House, Buckland Monachorum, Devon where I act as their volunteer photographer, visiting weekly, helping with their marketing and producing regular posts for their Instagram and Facebook feeds. Dartmoor and the Devon and Cornwall coastlines are regular photography haunts and, when time and finances permit, journeys further afield are a rich source of ideas and imagery. My main areas of interest are best expressed visually and really cover 6 areas - though I reserve the right to do something different if inspiration strikes. These areas are:
Plants and flowers Garden Photography
Landscape Birds

Insects Macro nature
Over eleven thousand of my images are available for commercial and editorial licence through the Alamy stock agency. Sales have been brisk since he joined Alamy in January 2014, with thousands of images used by book publishers, gardening magazines, calendar publishers, newspapers and for commercial advertising and marketing.
